ABOUT JEAN
Hello. I’m Jean. Artist Writer and Curious Dreamer.
Thanks for visiting my Blog… and for wanting to know a little bit more about me.
The Artist.
I paint mostly in Watercolor. My love for the watercolor medium is well documented within the pages here. Over the years I’ve been known to wax lyrical for hours on end about the fluidity of washes and the magic of paint. So I won’t bore you with it again here… probably because that’s what archives are for… [grin]
But what you do probably need to know is… I paint modern watercolors in relatively large format… mostly people… with the odd coconut tree tossed in for fun… [due... no doubt... in no small part to the influence of my exotic location in tropical North Queensland Australia] Ah… I do so love this beautiful place ~sigh~

I also draw and paint cartoons with a Sharpie pen and watercolor paint respectively. Cartoons are a lot of fun to do… and I love the way the characters come to life on the page!
I also take photographs… [which along with the blog strikes fear in the heart of most camera shy people I know] and have also been recently dabbling in film making and editing. You can view a couple of my art clips on Vimeo. These are definitely works in progress as I learn and grow. But the potential excites me like nothing else… and I can’t wait to stretch my wings further! Watch this space… [grin]
The Writer.
Writing is my other passion… and I tend to write more than I paint. This probably has something to do with the fact that it’s way easier to write than paint at 3am in the morning when you wake up with a great idea that simply won’t go away until you either…
1. write it down… or
2. the sun comes up… [by which time all you want to do is go back to sleep but you can't] [grin]
I do however love words… and although “every picture tells a story”… sometimes only words will do!
I write e-books… and books for children… web content… stories… and poetry… but best of all I get to write for you [here on the blog] and over at my other blog DearDotCom which is still in the trial stages [grin] – and an ongoing work in progress – watch this space!
As for the Dreamer…
Well… what can I say?
I have no excuses [grin]

Hi Keith!
Thanks so much for dropping in. It’s always fun to make a new friend and I do so appreciate your very kind words here! I hope you will stay in touch [subscribe if you like]… and we can talk some more down the track.
Thanks once again
Hi Jean , Your artist touch is showing again!!!!!!!!!! must be a trait of the Burmans , I have Amelia Burman in my family I have a sister in Brisbane who is very fond of art & graphics she has her own business , are you a Nth Queenslander I have spent a lot of time up there so much scope for doing tropical landscapes . I’m a family historian I have researched some of the Burmans going back to Middlesex , London I did not know that we are Russian or Prussian also can be Finnish & Swedish & Jewish I was reading a story about Rickie Burman who is the Director of the London Jewish Museam which was opened recently by Nigella Lawson . Have you done any family research if there is any info you can give I would appreciate it I’m sorry typical historian we are always on the hunt for info anyhow your work is great All the Best ,
Kind regards , Geoffrey Orr . Brisbane .
Hi Geoffrey
so lovely to meet you! My kids are descendants of Heiram Burman of Hull in Yorkshire and his wife Mary O’Sullivan from Kenmare in County Kerry Ireland.
As for me… I am descendant of either Lord Melville of Edinburgh [grin] or Herman Melville [the author] *wink* I sure do hope it’s the latter given my aspirations as a writer… but then everyone knows there can only be one Moby Dick! (((chuckles))) I would have loved to claim a connection to Robert Louis Stevenson… however I doubt any link although he was a fellow Edinburghian [or would that be Edinburgher?... not sure] LOL
How interesting that the Burman’s have a Russian/Prussian and possible Jewish Scandinavian connection and I totally love Rickie Burman already for having the style and panache to choose Nigella to open the London Jewish Museum! Now that’s seriously cool.
I haven’t been of much help I fear… but I am so pleased you stopped by to say hello. The world is such a small place… becoming progressively ever so smaller via the internet. What a magnificent place it is for meeting family. I hope we can stay in touch!
Thanks again… and very best wishes
Jean
Jean! You are a lady after my own heart and anyone who is even somewhat related to Scotland is A OK in my book. Speaking of books and Scotland, in fact Edinburgh in particular, I love ( and cannot imagine anyone who doesn’t) Alexander McCall Smith. I’m sure you are extremely familiar with his writing which I find luminous, smart, funny, endearing, thought provoking and compassionate!! There are likely many more adjectives I could enumerate but no matter – you get the gist! I also notice how well you write – you are a Renaissance woman!
Hi Nancy
A renaissance woman? Oh I do like the sound of that! [grin] Thanks for stopping by Nancy… it’s lovely to meet you!
